Arts District Liberty Station is kicking off its seventh year of the Collaborative program, highlighting new projects designed to spark community connection through creativity and conversation.

This year’s lineup brings together local artists and organizations working across different disciplines to explore timely themes and inspire public engagement.

The 2025 Collaborative cohort includes San Diego Craft Collective, Visions Museum of Textile Art, and Apt 4 Music—each teaming up with fellow tenants to create hands-on events and installations throughout the year. These projects are part of the ongoing effort to position Arts District Liberty Station as a vibrant hub for arts, culture, and collaboration in San Diego.

“The Collaborative program continues to be a powerful platform for our tenants to explore diversity, creativity, and social impact through the lens of interdisciplinary arts,” said Lisa Johnson, president & CEO of Arts District Liberty Station.

Here’s what’s ahead:

Fiber Fest

June 13, 14, 15

A joint effort between San Diego Craft Collective, Apricot Yarn & Supply, and Visions Museum of Textile Art, Fiber Fest is a three-day celebration of natural textiles and sustainable craft.

June 13 (6–8 p.m.): The weekend opens with a Sit & Stitch and Fiber & Fabric Swap, welcoming fiber enthusiasts to bring projects—knitting, crocheting, weaving, or spinning—and join a casual social gathering. The night wraps up with a creative swap where everyone leaves with a handmade item and (hopefully) some new connections. June 14 (10 a.m–4 p.m.): The main event features live artist demos and hands-on stations, where visitors can explore the fiber journey from raw material to finished piece. Expect a mix of education, art-making, and community-building. June 15: Fiber-focused workshops (available for purchase) offer a deeper dive into specific techniques, designed for both beginners and experienced makers.

Make Music Day: Musical Playground

June 21, 2–9 p.m.

In celebration of International Make Music Day, Apt 4 Music and San Diego Craft Collective are hosting a free, family-friendly event on the North Promenade, packed with interactive performances and live music.

At the heart of the day is the Musical Playground—a mobile sound space made from upcycled materials, designed to encourage play, creativity, and collaboration through instruments like drums, chimes, and xylophones. Built by San Diego Craft Collective, the installation is open to all ages.

Headlining the evening is tribute band The Red NOT Chili Peppers. Free to attend, with VIP tickets available for those looking to upgrade with access to Stone Brewery’s garden seating, buffet, drink ticket, and swag bag.

Stitching Stories: What Is Home?

Sept. 6 and Oct. 3

Presented by Visions Museum of Textile Art and San Diego Writers, Ink, this two-part workshop explores the idea of “home” through words and fabric.

Day One (Sept. 6): Participants will join a writing session with San Diego Writers, Ink, to craft personal reflections on what home means to them. Day Two (Oct. 3): These stories will be translated into textile art and displayed alongside audio recordings of the written pieces at Visions Museum.

The result: an immersive exhibit of stitched and spoken narratives, inviting the public to engage with layered perspectives on identity, memory, and place.
