A large brush fire burning near Interstate 70 in Garfield County closed the highway in both directions Friday night, state and local officials said.

The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office ordered evacuations for the Rulison area just before 6:30 p.m., which is halfway between Rifle and Parachute.
