India hasn’t won a Test series in England for 17 long years, and now a young captain with a relatively fresh squad is aiming to rewrite history. With just five centuries in 32 matches and an average hovering around 35, Gill is yet to impress as a batter in England.

Ravi Shastri said on The ICC Review, “I think, take your time. It’s not going to be easy. He's been asked to do a tough job, which is to captain India on a tour of England. It’s never easy, but I think he will learn from this exposure.”

Well, the former Indian captain and coach feels Gill has shown signs of maturity and believes that he will grow into a strong leader with the right support.
Shastri added, “What I saw of him in the IPL with the Gujarat Titans, he seemed very composed and calm. He's got a good temperament. He’s matured as an individual, he’s got some young players around with him, and I think it’s a learning curve as far as Shubman Gill goes.”
