India’s new Test captain, Shubman Gill, is all set to walk into the toughest chapter of his cricketing journey, and the former head coach, Ravi Shastri, knows how challenging it is going to be for the young man. As India steps into a new Test era without Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill is gearing up for his first assignment as captain in England, with the first Test starting June 20 at Headingley.
India hasn’t won a Test series in England for 17 long years, and now a young captain with a relatively fresh squad is aiming to rewrite history. With just five centuries in 32 matches and an average hovering around 35, Gill is yet to impress as a batter in England.
The upcoming five-match Test series is going to be a tough one for Gill, as it will not only test the right-handed batter’s technique and nerve but also his leadership. Meanwhile, Ravi Shastri believes that this Test series will be a career-defining one for the young Indian captain.
