Man faces gun charge after RPD found him shot on city’s northeast side ...Middle East

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A man who Rochester Police officers found with a gunshot wound on the city’s northeast side is accused of illegally possessing a gun.

RPD responded to North Clinton Avenue and Clifford Avenue around 8:30 a.m. after getting a ShotSpotter alert. Witnesses said a man was waving a handgun in the intersection, then limped away.

Officers spotted a man walking on Oakmont Street and tried to stop him. According to RPD, the man began running and dropped a gun. Officers arrested the man on Galusha Street and learned that he had a lower-body gunshot wound.

The man, 34, was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital and is expected to recover. RPD says he’ll be charged with criminal possession of a weapon once the hospital releases him. RPD says the man is on parole for a prior gun conviction.

Police are still trying to determine how the man was shot. Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
