Callum Wilson has landed a punditry role at the Club World Cup, as his Newcastle future remains up in the air.

The 33-year-old looks set to leave St James’ Park this summer, with his current contract expiring at the end of the month.

Wilson has spent five years at the Mapgies, and while talks are ongoing about extending his stay, he will become a free agent as things stand.

And the striker has wasted no time in securing his next move, having agreed to form part of DAZN’s punditry team at the Club World Cup.

The new-look FIFA showpiece gets underway on Saturday, where Wilson will use his top-flight experience to provide expert analysis.

He will form part of a star-studded studio line-up for the 32-team tournament, which will run for just over a month in the United States.

Brazilian legend Ronaldo is among the pundits, with his former clubs Real Madrid, Barcelona and Inter Milan all in action.

Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel as well as Sami Khedira, Shay Given, ex-Manchester United star Kleberson and Christian Vieri have all been signed up by the broadcaster.

The tournament begins with a clash between Lionel Messi‘s Inter Miami and Egyptian outfit Al Ahly on Saturday night.

Wilson will also have a chance to critique some of his Premier League rivals, with Manchester City and Chelsea the two English sides in action.

The news of the forward’s upcoming commitment comes after Newcastle recently shared an update on his contract situation.

In a retained list released by the club, Wilson was named alongside three other players whose futures would be decided over the coming weeks.

While it confirmed Lloyd Kelly and Jamal Lewis would depart the club, it refused to rule out Wilson and goalkeeper John Ruddy staying beyond the summer.

The statement read: “Callum Wilson and John Ruddy are set to be out of contract at the end of June, however the club has opened discussions with both players about their futures and new contracts could still be agreed.”

talkSPORT previously reported that newly-promoted Premier League side Leeds were front-runners to sign Wilson.

It was believed the Magpies would allow him to leave for free if he was offered a chance to play first-team football elsewhere.

His latest season in black and white proved a disappointing one, as he featured 20 times in all competitions and scored just one goal, which came in the FA Cup, as injuries hampered his progress.

In the match programme prior to Newcastle’s penultimate home game, a 2-0 win over Chelsea, Wilson labelled the campaign as ‘one of my worst’.

He wrote: “As a collective, it’s been one of the best campaigns and teams I’ve been a part of – yet individually, it’s been one of my worst seasons.”

Wilson also endured a difficult time with fitness issues in the 2023/24 season, with injury and illness causing him to miss 23 games.

Injuries aside, he has also found himself stuck behind Alexander Isak in the pecking order at St James’ Park over the last two seasons.

Prior to this however, the ex-Coventry man established himself as the Geordies’ main man up front, proving why the club shelled out an estimated £20million to sign him from Bournemouth in 2020.

He netted 18 goals in 31 league games in the 2022/23 campaign, finishing fifth in the golden boot race, and firing his side to a fourth-place finish to qualify for the Champions League.

Overall, Wilson has scored 49 goals in 130 games for Newcastle.
