West Gobbi Street will be closed next week for paving as the final stages of the Urban Core Rehabilitation and Transportation Project begin, city of Ukiah officials reported.
In a press release, city officials explained that the ambitious project, “which consists of major street reconstruction and utility replacement on Main, Gobbi, and Perkins Streets, is entering its final stages (and) will be wrapping up in the coming months,” concluding with the paving of at least three much-traveled arteries: Gobbi, Main and Perkins streets.
“Paving on West Gobbi Street between State Street and Dora Street is scheduled to begin June 9,” the release advises. “Because most of this section of the street needs to be completely reconstructed (versus just a top layer of pavement), West Gobbi Street will be completely closed to traffic Monday (through) Friday, June 9 to 13, during construction hours, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Residents will have access to their driveways before/after construction hours, but not during, and should plan to park their vehicles outside of the construction area. Dora Street and State Streets at the Gobbi intersection will remain open, however, there will be intermittent lane detours in the area as contractors work near the intersections. Please use caution while travelling through these areas and watch for pedestrians and construction workers.”
The next street to be paved will be East Gobbi, and that is “tentatively scheduled to begin the week of June 23, with possible night paving to reduce construction time and impacts to traffic. This section will take approximately one week, and additional information will be provided once dates have been confirmed. Prior to paving on East Gobbi, final water tie-ins will take place on East Gobbi Street near the Orchard Avenue intersection, (which) is being scheduled for night work on June 12 to reduce impacts to residents. Residents and businesses will be provided 72-hour advance notice of any planned utility outages.”
After Gobbi Street is paved, city officials advise that “paving will begin on Main Street from Norton to Gobbi. Additionally, potholing (drilling into the pavement to identify utilities) will begin on Perkins Street on June 16. Perkins Street construction will consist of adding a new eastbound lane between Orchard Avenue and Pear Tree Center driveways, some concrete work, installation of new storm drains on the north side of the road, and updated traffic signals. Most of this work will occur between the Orchard Avenue intersection and Hospital Drive. Once complete, Perkins Street will be paved.”
