Shreyas Iyer entered the IPL 2025 mega auction as the IPL-winning captain, parting ways with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). As both franchises battled it out, PBKS took the lead at INR 6 crore, but KKR refused to back down. The price soon reached INR 7.25 crore before PBKS temporarily dropped out. And then, Delhi Capitals joined the bidding war. DC and KKR went head-to-head, with bids climbing to INR 10 crore.
At that point, KKR, after internal discussions, decided to withdraw, leaving DC in the lead. But PBKS rejoined the contest, as they needed a strong captain after parting ways with Rishabh Pant. The bidding war between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals saw the bid jump in crores every few seconds from INR 13 crore to INR 15 crore, INR 20 crore, and a whopping INR 23 crore.
