A Chatham County man is celebrating a big lottery win.
Victor Correro, a resident of Pittsboro, won a $427,363 jackpot on a $1 Cash 5 ticket on Sunday. After required federal and state tax withholdings, he went home with $306,633.
Rather than purchasing the winning ticket in person, Correro won using the North Carolina Education Lottery’s “Online Play” feature. It’s one of six games offered by the lottery that can be played online. After purchasing the ticket on Sunday, he traveled to the lottery’s headquarters in Raleigh on Thursday to collect his winnings.
The Cash 5 lottery uses five numbers, and Correro’s ticket matched all five, the odds of which are 1 in 962,598.
Correro is far from the first Chatham County resident to win the lottery in 2025. Heather Jones of Bear Creek won a $150,000 prize in January, Linda Denning of Pittsboro won a $369,962 jackpot prize in April, and Angelette Cheek of Pittsboro won a $1 million prize later that same month.
