Berhampur: In a significant operation aimed at curbing criminal activities, Berhampur Police arrested 12 notorious anti-socials and seized 6 pistols, 12 rounds of live ammunition.
The police also seized a sword, and an iron rod in coordinated raids across the Berhampur Police district.
In a press briefing, IG , Southern Range Niti Shekar and Berhampur SP Dr. Saravana Vivek M gave details about the special drive against the antisocial activities.
The arrests, executed on May 21 and 22, 2025, involved four police stations—Bada Bazar, Berhampur Sadar, Nimakhandi, and Digapahandi under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act.
At Bada Bazar PS, four anti-socials identified as Bhalu Samal @ Lagen Samal (46), Lingaraj Samal @ Rinku (22), Satyaban Das @ Naka (21), and K. Prasad Rao (29)—were apprehended, with police seizing 2 pistols, 4 rounds of ammunition, 1 sword, and 1 iron rod.
Berhampur Sadar PS arrested Mantu Gouda (21), Rakesh Padhi @ Rocky (25), Partha Das @ Bajarangi (22), and Ranjan Nayak (26), recovering 1 pistol, 3 rounds of ammunition, and 1 sswordl.
Nimakhandi PS nabbed Ashok Kumar Panigrahy (30), Tuna Nayak (28), and Sangham Panigrahy @ Siba (27), seizing 2 pistols and 4 rounds of ammunition (Case No. 158, dated 22.05.2025). Digapahandi PS arrested Ajit Sethi @ Balia (26), with 1 pistol and 1 round of ammunition confiscated.
The accused have extensive criminal records with Bhalu Samal faceing 10 cases across multiple stations, K. Prasad Rao has 14 cases, Ashok Kumar Panigrahy and Tuna Nayak have 8 and 6 cases respectively in Nimakhandi PS, and Ajit Sethi is linked to 8 cases, primarily in Digapahandi.
Others, including Lingaraj Samal, Satyaban Das, Sangham Panigrahy, and Rakesh Padhi, have 2 to 5 cases each.
The operation, driven by intelligence and meticulous planning, marks a crucial step in disrupting illegal arms trafficking and antisocial activities in the region, as per police.
