A bus full of children temporarily caught on fire on Highway 17 in Los Gatos on Friday morning, according to a California Highway Patrol social media post.
A charter bus carrying 32 children and five adults was heading southbound on Highway 17 around Big Moody Curve, south of Idylwild Road. The driver pulled over to the right shoulder of the road when they saw smoke coming from the bus. Everyone evacuated the bus and the fire was put out. There were no reported injuries.
CHP and fire personnel closed both lanes of traffic to extinguish the fire around 9:24 a.m. The lanes were closed for around 40 minutes before the left lane was reopened. The second lane reopened around 10:30 a.m. Santa Clara County Fire did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
A second bus was called to transport the passengers. CHP could not confirm where the bus was coming from or where its destination was.
