OAKLAND – A 35-year-old Oakland man was sentenced this week to nearly six years in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, prosecutors said.

Michael Tatum pleaded guilty to the charge in January 2024, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

During a search of Tatum’s residence in February 2022, law enforcement officers found five loaded guns, including one that was stolen, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition, prosecutors said.

Officers also seized about $148,530 in U.S. currency.

In addition to a 70-month prison term, Tatum was ordered to serve three years of supervised release and forfeit his interest in the recovered firearms, ammunition and currency.

Tatum is set to begin serving his sentence on July 22.
