We’ve got another delivery of fun facts to enjoy.

For the past several days, we’ve presented readers with 50 fun facts about the Grand Prix of Long Beach in honor of the iconic race’s 50th anniversary.

On Sunday, we presented the first 15 facts — followed by an additional five each day this week.

No. 41

To help cope with the Grand Prix’s noise, Long Beach’s health department unveiled a mobile, soundproof sensory trailer at last year’s event. It aims to help provide respite from sensory overload.

No. 42

In 1975, the Grand Prix of Long Beach’s inaugural year, gas was 53 cents a gallon.

No. 43

In recent years, the Grand Prix has gone green by selling recyclable aluminum water bottles instead of plastic bottles, which can be refilled at the city’s “Quench Buggy” during the event.

No. 44

In 2023, for the first time, race cars competed in the Grand Prix using 100% renewable fuel from Shell — helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions during the race by at least 60%.

No. 45

Some IndyCars at the 2023 Grand Prix used Firestone Firehawk tires, which are made from guayule shrub to be more eco-friendly.
