ANSON COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- An Anson County man accused of fatally shooting his 6-year-old daughter following a police chase and crash this week has died in the hospital.

Chief Tim Hutchinson confirmed with Queen City News that Michael Rufus Roach passed away at 9:46 a.m. Thursday, March 27, from his injuries.

Roach was critically injured after fatally shooting his 6-year-old daughter, Mianna Roach, and then reportedly turning the gun on himself following a high-speed chase and wreck.

The disturbing series of events began early on the morning of March 24, when Anson County deputies responded to a 911 call from a woman who reported that her partner, Roach, had entered her room, threatened her with a gun, and then taken their young daughter.

Roach fled the scene, prompting a "Be On the Look Out" (BOLO) alert, though no Amber Alert was issued as there was no official documentation regarding custody arrangements, police said.

Hours later, around 8:00 a.m., deputies attempted to stop Roach in a black Jeep Liberty. When he failed to stop, a chase began through the northern part of the county. The pursuit ended when Roach lost control of the vehicle on Little Creek Road and crashed into a ditch.

Upon reaching the vehicle, law enforcement discovered Roach in the driver's seat with a gunshot wound, while his daughter, Mianna, was found deceased in the passenger seat.

Roach was transported to Atrium Anson and later flown to CMS Main in critical condition. He succumbed to his injuries on Thursday morning.

Chief Hutchinson expressed his condolences, saying, "My heartfelt prayers go out to the families affected by this tragedy. I also want to express my gratitude to the first responders, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, and the Anson County Sheriff’s Office for their dedication and support."

The family is currently working on funeral arrangements for 6-year-old Mianna Roach. A fund has been started to help the family with the costs.
