(KRON) – An inmate at a Redwood City correctional center died in custody on Saturday, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
At 4:50 p.m. on Saturday, sheriff’s office personnel assigned to the Maple Street Correctional Center were informed of an unresponsive incarcerated person found in a facility housing unit.
Responding authorities said they administered aid. However, the inmate, described as a 25-year-old white man, was pronounced deceased at the correctional facility by EMS personnel.

San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office, the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office and Sheriff’s Detectives are conducting independent investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.
