The women, later identified as 46-year-old Lagashia Shante Williams and 18-year-old Graciela Amar, were arrested and booked into the Martinez and West County Detention Facilities on Feb. 27, according to the DA. They were released after posting bail of $172,500 on March 1 and March 2 respectively.
According to the DA, the incident began when Williams and Amar confronted the dog owner in his driveway regarding an incident involving an elderly neighbor. The neighbor, the DA said, had accidentally run over the dog owner's plant while backing into a driveway.
During the confrontation, which escalated into an argument, Amar walked toward a vehicle and retrieved what turned out to be an imitation firearm and handed it to Williams, the DA said. As the argument continued, Williams brandished the imitation weapon, causing the dog owner to back away and pick up one of the dogs.
As he was backing up, Williams told Amar to kick the other dog. She did and the force of the kick sent the animal "aloft through the air," the DA said. It landed on the homeowner's lawn. He picked up the wounded animal, which was crying out, and took it inside.
Williams, according to the DA, called 911 and reported to police that the dog owner had a gun. This claim proved false. The two women are due to be arraigned in court on charges that include cruelty to animals, drawing or exhibiting an imitation firearm in a threatening manner, and false report.
If convicted, both could serve a maximum of three years and fined up to $20,000.
