A six-day-old baby boy died of blunt force trauma to his head, investigators determined Thursday following an autopsy.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office categorized the manner of death for the Spring Valley baby as homicide, according to sheriff’s officials.
His biological father, David Ruiz, 22, remains in custody at San Diego Central Jail and faces a charge of first-degree murder. His arraignment is set for Friday.
Deputies and the San Miguel Fire Department responded to a report of a battery at a residence on Sacramento Avenue on Wednesday. They found a male infant unconscious on the living room floor with visible head trauma. The baby was pronounced dead at the scene.
