The New ZiPS Top-100 Prospect List LOVES Owen Caissie ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

Yesterday, FanGraphs released their 2025 Top-100 Prospect Rankings, and that list … did not love the Chicago Cubs. Although the organization did score four prospects among the top 100, including a particularly high ranking for Matt Shaw (#13 overall), each of Moises Ballesteros, Owen Caissie, and James Triantos was conspicuously missing. But today, a comeback of sorts.

Ranking Cubs Prospects – Owen Caissie Gets Some Love

FanGraphs contributor and ZiPS creator Dan Szymborski created a more objective, complementary set of rankings based on ZiPS projections. And by that measure, the Cubs’ prospects fare quite a bit better, especially Owen Caissie who FLIES up the list from unranked to top-20 overall.

Matt Shaw, 15th (13th on FG list) Owen Caissie, 19th (unranked on FG list) Kevin Alcantara, 56th (46th on FG list) Moises Ballesteros, 58th (unranked on FG list) Jefferson Rojas, 88th (81st on FG list) Cade Horton, 98th (79th on FG list)

As you can see, James Triantos remains outside of the top 100, though that’s not a huge surprise, as most lists seem to have him in that 100-150 range, and Cade Horton dropped considerably from 79th to 98th. But overall, this is a much better showing for the Cubs.

In fact, the Cubs are tied for the most top-100 prospects in MLB (alongside the White Sox and Guardians) and have the second-most inside the top 200 (9). Likewise, Owen Caissie is “the best prospect to not make the FanGraphs list” according to ZiPS.

Other random rankings of note:

Former Cubs prospect Cam Smith ranks 129th according to ZiPS, despite getting top-75 love from FanGraphs (and even higher on some other lists). Moises Ballesteros ranks as the sixth-best catching prospect according to ZiPS, and that’s behind some big-time names like Samuel Basallo, Kyle Teel, and Ethan Salas. The same goes for Owen Caissie, who ranks sixth among all outfielders, but behind some very well-liked prospects: Roman Anthony, Dylan Crews, Emmanuel Rodriguez, Max Clark, and Jason Dominguez. In fact, all five of those outfielders are center fielders, making Caissie the best non-CF outfield prospect according to ZiPS. Kevin Alcantara, ranked as a CF, comes in one spot behind him among all outfielders.
