Yes, the Bulls’ HUGE Halftime Deficit to the Pistons Made Some Ugly History ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

As if you needed confirmation, yes, the Chicago Bulls made franchise history when they walked into the locker room down 71-29 on Tuesday night.

After scoring a mere 11 points in the second quarter and shooting 1-23 from downtown in the first half, the Bulls tied their largest halftime deficit in franchise history. They matched their infamous outing against the Golden State Warriors on Oct. 29, 2018, when Klay Thompson drained a historic 14 threes in only three-quarters of action.

Nonetheless, I think most of us can agree that last night’s deficit takes the rotten-flavored cake. The Bulls at least had the excuse of a record-breaking performance in 2018 – let alone a matchup against one of the single-best NBA teams ever created. Last night’s 42-point deficit came against a Detroit Pistons team that sits two games over .500. The score was far less about what Detroit was doing and far more about what Chicago was failing to do.

But, wait, there was more unfortunate history made! The Bulls played some similarly uninspired basketball during their second half against the Golden State Warriors on Saturday night. After going up by as much as 24 points in the first half, the team completely collapsed over the final two quarters. The Warriors outscored the Bulls 77-42, so if we add in what happened during Tuesday’s first half, the Bulls were outscored a combined 77 points over a 48 minutes stretch.

Nate Duncan shares that this marks the worst consecutive halves in NBA history.

Be careful what you wish for, right?

I guess this goes to show that – whether the front office wants to accept it or not – the tank really is on for the Chicago Bulls. Still, pressing the reset button doesn’t have to mean historically bad halves of basketball. The Bulls’ young talent still needs to play with some purpose and pride, which is something we touched on more in our morning bullets.
