Letters to the Editor: Trump, Musk; Lind’s West Greeley project ...Saudi Arabia

Is America trading freedom for profit in 2025?

If you traded your citizenship to become an employee; would it upset you? Donald Trump has appointed himself the boss of America, and he will run it as he pleases. A business does not have a Congress. There is a board of wealth to command the boss. Trump is singularly running the nation by executive order. The boss is immune from prosecution, and judicial preference is assured.

Elon Musk is building a reputation as an independent rogue with unquestionable authority from President Donald Trump. Musk’s mission is vague and obscure, Musk’s confidence is captured in the picture of him giving a Nazi salute. After a careful study of this photo, I am convinced it is a symbol of loyalty to someone. Musk operates by acting first and not explaining later. President Trump has the prerogative of disavowing or acknowledging Musk’s actions, at his leisure. Is that considered subversion? Is it a threat to our national security? Musk is an immigrant from another country. He has never made any creditable sacrifice for anything.

America has been here eight years ago. Some have kept Trump’s fantasy alive; some distance themselves from responsibility, some just wait for the next election, some flee, many have their own immediate survival to consider. I have faith and family to enjoy. Good day.

Disney-like project wouldn’t benefit Greeley

The Martin Lind proposal for the West Greeley intersection of WCR 17 and U.S. 34 is an economic chasm that will never come to fruition for the proposed $1.1 billion. Lind’s proposed benefit to the city of Greeley is a typical developer Walt Disney-like proposal with traffic lined up on I-25 to get into Greeley to enjoy and languish in the Lind Development.

In the meantime the city of Greeley will be obligated to pay for highway, roadway, water and sewer main lines, water and sewer plant expansions, and increased traffic congestion. If Lind wants to build his project for his benefit, then his company should do so and then the city of Greeley can benefit from the tax revenue. If Lind wants to present an engineering and construction cost benefit to the city of Greeley with cost proposals based on pertinent project proposals, the taxpayers of Greeley can then vote on the development and not the Greeley City Council.

I believe the city of Greeley can enjoy a more quiet community without the addition of more traffic congestion, temporary employment opportunities, and a 100-year tax obligation.

A coup from within is still a coup

President Trump has enabled Elon Musk to illegally access sensitive government information and change key programs, including government spending, foreign aid, taxation and education. Only Congress has the authority to make such changes to the government, and only through the legislative process.

American democracy has never been perfect and has often been ugly, but historically, our elected representatives have mostly held firm in support of Congress, the Constitution and the rule of law. To do so now requires Republican senators and representatives to speak up, to strongly assert the role of Congress and to stop the dismantling of what Congress created and the president is sworn to uphold.

The Constitution is not a partisan document. It was painstakingly written and amended through the democratic efforts of millions of Americans. It is Congress’ job to defend it. If Republicans in Congress cannot do that, they must resign. A coup from inside the government is still a coup, and our representatives in Congress must not be complicit. They must stand forcefully in the way.
