TEAM SCORES

MEN

Louisville – 189.5 Xavier – 70.5

WOMEN

Louisville – 188 Xavier – 69

Louisville hosted Xavier for a combined dual meet at the Ralph Wright Natatorium yesterday, defeating the Musketeers soundly in both men’s and women’s scoring.

One of the best performances of the day came early, as Louisville sophomore Thilda Haell crushed the Ralph Wright pool record in the women’s 1000 free. The second year from Sweden put up a very impressive 9:34.26 in her home meet debut for this season, shredding the pool record of 9:40.26, which Liberty Clark set back in 2022. Not only was Haell great, but teammate Leticia Fassina was also fantastic, touching 2nd in 9:35.12, which was also well under the pool record mark. Both Haell and Fassina hold career bests of 9:32, with Fassina having been 9:32.33 and Haell 9:32.52.

Both Fassina and Haell would go on to swim the 500 free, though they both competed exhibition (not for points). Fassina stopped the clock in 4:45.47, while Haell was 4:46.04, which would have been 2nd and 3rd respectively had they been scored. Louisville’s Daria Golovaty won the women’s 500 free on the day, putting up a 4:43.73. Golovaty holds a career best of 4:38.79, which she swam in October of 2024.

Louisville sophomore Anastasia Gorbenko was excellent on the day, breaking a pool record as well. In a show of her elite versatility, Gorbenko raced the 100 back and 200 back yesterday after racing the 50 fly, 100 IM, and 200 breast at Louisville’s first CSL match a week previously. In the 100 back, Gorbenko posted a 51.79, winning the race by nearly 2 full seconds. The swim also marks her first time racing the event in her collegiate career.

Gorbenko went on to win the 200 back in 1:52.76, taking half a second off Liberty Williams’ pool record of 1:53.22, which was set in 2023. She was also just a hair off her career best of 1:52.53. Louisville sophomore Julie Mishler was also terrific in the 200 back, taking 2nd with a 1:54.15, while fellow Sophomore Xeniya Ignatova was 3rd with a 1:54.47. Mishler was within a second of her career best of 1:53.26, while Ignatova was just over a second away from her career best of 1:53.35.

Caroline Larsen (Louisville) was great in the women’s 100 fly, nearly taking down the pool record in that event with a 51.61. She was just a tick off her own personal best of 51.38, and even closer to Gabi Albiero’s pool record of 51.45. Larsen also won the women’s 50 free in 21.71. She clocked her career best 50 free of 21.54 leading off the 200 free relay at Louisville’s first CSL match a week ago.

Louisville also cracked the pool record in the women’s 400 free relay, putting together a very impressive dual meet swim of 3:12.84. Larsen (47.13), Julia Ogren (48.90), Mishler (48.50), and Angelina Solari (48.31) combined to get the job done, blowing the previous pool record of 3:14.23 out of the water. Larsen’s 47.13 lead-off was particularly noteworthy, considering it was well within half a second of her career best 46.82.

On the men’s side, Louisville’s Nikita Sheremet was strong in the 50 free, winning the event in 19.34. That swim came after he anchored Louisville’s 200 medley relay in 18.68. Sheremet also went on to swim a 42.70 on the lead-off leg of the men’s 400 free relay, helping his team to victory.

Gregg Enoch (Louisville) was another star on the day. Enoch took a pair of events, first winning the 200 fly in 1:45.89. which was the fastest time in the field by nearly 3 seconds. He then went on to win the 200 IM in 1:48.79, touching 1st by nearly 4 seconds.

Louisville’s Aiden Musso had a great swim in the men’s 100 fly, clocking a 46.24. Musso was a little over a second off his career best of 44.97.
