The good news when a game starts at almost 9 PM local is the first period flew by and neither team scored. With a little under eight minutes left in the first period, this ridiculous sequence by Arvid Söderblom and Connor Murphy kept the game tied at zeroes.

— BHF (@BlackhawksFocus) February 6, 2025Viktor Arvidsson gave the Oilers a lead 8:51 into the second period. The Blackhawks were just trying to hang around in the final minutes of the second. They got a good rush from a re-worked line of Lukas Reichel skating with Teuvo Teräväinen and Ilya Mikheyev. Reichel redirected a Teräväinen shot-pass into the net with 5.8 seconds left in the period to tie the game.
The Oilers took a 2-1 lead just 71 seconds into the third period on a goal from Jeff Skinner set up by Leon Draisaitl. Seven minutes later, Skinner set up Draisaitl and the Oilers led 3-1. But the Blackhawks didn’t go away. They got a power play goal in the middle of the period and tied it on an absolute missile from Alec Martinez with 3:44 left in regulation.

There were moments in the first two periods that this game could have gone the wrong direction quickly, but he made the big saves to keep it close.
Star 2: Teuvo Teräväinen
Stepping into a different role because of an injury, Reichel got his ass to the right spot on the ice to tie the game in the closing second of the second period. Teräväinen then made another gorgeous pass that was redirected into the net by Ryan Donato for a power play goal to get the Blackhawks within one in the middle of the third period.

Jason Dickinson‘s line got the assignment of checking Draisaitl’s line. Dickinson was on the ice for 4:12 against Draisaitl in the first period during which the Blackhawks had a 7-4 shot attempt advantage and 6-2 shot on net advantage at 5-on-5 (according to Natural Stat Trick). With 15:30 left in the second period, Dickinson got tangled up with Vasily Podkolzin and went down into the boards. Dickinson was helped to the bench and went straight to the room without putting much weight on his left leg. It doesn’t look good. The Blackhawks announced at the start of the third that Dickinson would not return.Jason Dickinson needed help off the ice after getting tangled up with Vasily Podkolzin pic.twitter.com/qWB3WcVq9l
— BHF (@BlackhawksFocus) February 6, 2025 The Blackhawks officially out-shot the Oilers 15-12 in the first period. In the first period, the Blackhawks put Connor Bedard‘s line out against Connor McDavid’s. Landon Slaggert was relentless pressuring McDavid. The Blackhawks had a 7-5 shot attempt advantage when Bedard-McDavid was on the ice in the first period (5:37 at 5-on-5). About one minute after Dickinson went down, Murphy got tangled up in front of the Edmonton net. He got up slowly and gingerly made his way to the bench. It looked like was was flexing something in his lower body on the bench. He was able to return about about four minutes later. Read More Details
