Day two prelims of the 2026 NCSA Spring Championships was relatively quiet, with a few personal best times spread out among the top qualifiers for the day two finals session.

In the girls’ 200 butterfly, NC State commit and NCAP senior Emma Cigna earned the top qualifying spot in a time of 1:56.61. This swim was a full second drop from the 1:57.91 mark she set in February, and earned her the top seed in the event by about a second over NCAP teammate Sadie Buckley, who swam her own personal best time of 1:57.64.

Buckley will have a double tonight as the top seed in the 200 freestyle after swimming 1:46.92 to come in eight tenths ahead of Long Island’s Vivienne Zangaro, who qualified 2nd in 1:47.73.

Buckley, who is committed to Texas for 2027, has a lifetime best of 1:46.48 from the end of February.

Cigna’s time brings her in just four tenths off the 2026 NCAA Invite time in the event of 1:56.22, which is a good sign for a potential NCAA qualification in the event in her freshman season next year.

On the boys’ side, Academy Bullets Swim Club’s Brayden Capen, a United States World Juniors Qualifier in the 400 IM, earned the top seed for the 400 IM final, touching in 3:47.56 to drop a second-and-a-half from his previous best of 3:49.09 that he swam at the Winter Junior West Championships in December.

Capen, a Tennessee commit for the class of 2027 came into the season at 3:49.38, which he swam to finish 4th at last year’s NCSA Spring Championships.

He earned the top seed by a little more than two seconds over Nova of Virginia’s Matthew Wolfie, who swam 3:49.90 to qualify 2nd.
