According to UNC, it will be the first regular season game to be played on a Monday in program history and the first time since 1941 that Carolina hasn’t played its season opener on a Saturday. It’s also the fourth-ever meeting between the Tar Heels and Horned Frogs: Carolina won contests in 1940, 1994 and 1997.
Though the TCU matchup is the only game on Carolina’s schedule with a confirmed kickoff time, the other three non-conference matchups and eight ACC opponents have been confirmed. UNC will face Charlotte on the road on September 6, host Richmond on September 13 and visit UCF on September 20. The conference opponents are Cal (away), NC State (away), Clemson (home), Duke (home), Stanford (home), Virginia (home), Syracuse (away) and Wake Forest (away).
The ACC will announce the date for UNC’s conference opener on Friday, and the full schedule will be revealed on Monday.
The 2025 season will be Carolina’s first under head coach Bill Belichick, the legendary Super Bowl champion who joined the program in December. Belichick replaces Mack Brown, who spent the previous six seasons in charge.
