UEFA Euro 2024: England vs Slovenia 0-0

UEFA Euro 2024 match between England and Slovenia ended in a goalless draw, with both teams struggling to break the deadlock throughout the game. The highly anticipated showdown between these two European powerhouses failed to live up to expectations as neither side was able to find the back of the net.

England, led by their star player Harry Kane, dominated possession for much of the match but were unable to convert their chances into goals. Slovenia's defense proved to be resolute and managed to keep the English attack at bay, frustrating their opponents with their disciplined performance.

Liverpool, started England's first two group matches -- a 1-0 victory over Serbia and a 1-1 draw with Denmark -- in central midfield alongside Declan Rice, but his performances have drawn heavy criticism.

Southgate has substituted the 25-year-old in the second half of both matches in favour of Chelsea midfielder Gallagher.

The Euro 2020 finalists are unchanged otherwise as they look for a more cohesive attacking display from their star-studded forward line that incudes Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, Bukayo Saka and captain Harry Kane.

England, who have already secured qualification for the knockout stages of the competition following Albania's 1-0 loss to Spain on Monday, require a victory over Slovenia to ensure they finish top of the group.

Albania's result means the four points England have earned from their opening two group-stage matches guarantees that they cannot finish outside of the third-place spots that advance to the round of 16.

Southgate may opt for changes in a bid to freshen things up but it is hard to envisage a marked lift in tempo and, with goals set to be at a premium, corners could also be in short supply.

England’s opening showdown with Serbia featured only three corners, with the Three Lions registering only one, while their 1-1 draw with Denmark featured six corners with Southgate’s side registering just two.

The ball spent the majority of the time in the centre of the pitch in England’s first two assignments and with them set to dominate possession, Slovenia may struggle to create too many chances. That makes under 8.5 corners look a solid play.
