Brazil, as the host nation and one of the favorites to win the tournament, had high expectations coming into this match. However, they were unable to break down Costa Rica's defense and create many clear-cut scoring opportunities. Costa Rica, on the other hand, put in a resilient display and managed to frustrate Brazil's attacking players.

The Brazilians have had a decent start to 2024, winning twice and drawing twice in four games. This comes after a woeful end to 2023 as they lost their final three games of the year and were winless in four.
