Arsenal put on a dazzling display of football as they cruised to a 3-0 victory over Brighton. The Gunners were in fine form from the start, dominating possession and creating numerous scoring opportunities.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang opened the scoring with a clinical finish in the first half, showcasing his lethal goal-scoring ability. The Arsenal captain was a constant threat to the Brighton defense, using his speed and skill to create havoc in the final third.
Every game will be vital in what looks like it'll be the most closely contested three-way Premier League title race in memory, but Arsenal's trip to the Amex Stadium is the second in a run of tricky tests on the road that punctuate the final few weeks like banana skins in the road.
Manchester City last weekend, Arsenal again showed their discipline at Brighton. Only this time, the Gunners added potency in their attack reminiscent of the start of 2024 when they were emphatically beating opponents with ease. They have still not trailed for a single minute in a league game this calendar year.
Arsenal should have scored in the first minute when Gabriel headed Martin Odegaard’s free kick wide from close range, but it wasn’t long before Albion got into their stride.
Julio Enciso and Jakub Moder were off target with shots before Simon Adingra cut inside Oleksandr Zinchenko but couldn’t test David Raya with a right-foot effort that was always drifting wide.
Liverpool who play their game in hand at Manchester United on Sunday. Manchester City are third but only trail Jurgen Klopp’s Merseysiders on goal difference.
Arsenal will now switch focus to the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter final with Bayern Munich prior to hosting Aston Villa next Sunday. Brighton, who sit 10th, are at Burnley next Saturday.
On the other side of the U-17 bracket, the Philadelphia Union secured a semifinal spot with a 4-2 win against Croatian side Hajduk Split. The Union raced out to a 3-0 lead, as goals from Peter Doran, Anisse Saidi and Diego Rocio had them comfortably in front through 40 minutes. A brace by Duje Matić cut the margin to 3-2 before Rocio added a fourth in stoppage time to seal a spot in the next round.
Up next for Philly is Brazilian side Flamengo, who defeated PSV Eindhoven by a 1-0 score. Joshua’s goal in the sixth minute stood as the winner.
