Mikel Merino scored Sociedad’s lone goal in the 89th to give the home crowd some reason to celebrate.
“We wanted to qualify, but we also wanted to win,” Mbappé said. “We had a game plan that was clear, and we managed to score early. We didn’t come under too much pressure, just a little at the end.”
PSG responded quickly, equalizing just before halftime through Kylian Mbappe. The French side continued to press forward in the second half and were rewarded with a goal from Mauro Icardi in the 62nd minute.
Despite their best efforts, Real Sociedad couldn't find an equalizer and PSG held on for the win. The stats may show PSG's dominance, but it was their clinical finishing that ultimately secured them the victory.
