Old Trafford, bringing supporters team news and talking points before the 8pm start.

Mikey Burrows and Hall of Fame full-back Andy Thompson will then provide full 90-minute commentary of the fixture, before spending 30 minutes after the final whistle dissecting the action.

The visitors were the better side for most of the game with Matheus Nunes and Matheus Cunha finding lots of joy with runs through midfield but the midlands side lacked quality in front of goal. Debutant Andre Onana impressed for the hosts and made a number of saves in the second half to keep them ahead.

Raphael Varane who provided the difference. Jadon Sancho won a corner that was initially cleared. Varane stayed up the pitch and when Bruno Fernandes chipped it back into the box he was on hand to meet Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s pass and head home the winner.

That was followed up with two consecutive efforts to thwart Wolves substitute Fabio Silva.

All the good work could have been undone deep into injury time, but referee Simon Hooper waved away Wolves' penalty appeals when Onana collided with Sasa Kaladzjic while coming to claim a cross.

The Video Assistant Referee decided there was not enough in the incident to merit intervening, and United eventually saw out time to make it 19 league games unbeaten at the Theatre of Dreams.

United manager Erik ten Hag said "it can always happen" when asked if he was concerned whether Hooper was going to the monitor as he moved towards the side of the pitch.

In fact, the referee was going to book O'Neil for his protest, in line with the zero-tolerance policy for any managerial aggression towards officials this season.

Onana's performance gained him 42 per cent of the vote in our post-match poll, which is enough to claim victory in the first Man-of-the-Match vote of the 2023/24 season.

Goalscorer Varane came joint-second, on 22 per cent, alongside Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who impressed at right-back even before his crafty assist for the Frenchman.
