Two of the people killed in a fatal crash on Highway 101 just north of Ukiah last week have been identified by the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office. MCSO Capt. Greg Van Patten reported Tuesday that the driver of a 2001 Toyota Echo sedan that crashed into a tree and caught fire along Hwy. 101 near Pomo Lane on April 4 has been identified as Gavin L. Backues, 30, of Eureka. The female passenger was identified as Caroline A. Salcido, 22, also of Eureka.
