The death of a Redwood Valley man found fatally injured in Covelo this week has been ruled a homicide, the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office reported Friday. MCSO Capt. Greg Van Patten reported that an autopsy on the victim, identified as Nicholas Shehli Whipple, 20, of Redwood Valley, performed Thursday “determined (Whipple) had a gunshot wound to his torso and his death is currently being investigated as a homicide.” Van Patten also reported that “further investigations are currently ongoing and no additional information is currently available for public release.” According to an earlier press release from the MCSO, deputies were dispatched to Tabor Lane in Covelo around 4:30 a.m. March 29
