A fire that burned an outdoor seating area at a Ukiah motel Tuesday fortunately did not spread to any of the buildings, the Ukiah Valley Fire Authority reported. UVFA Battalion Chief Justin Buckingham said crews were dispatched to the Super 8 on South Orchard Avenue around midnight July 20 for a report of a fire near the motel’s pool, and upon arrival he found “a pergola fully involved in flames.” Buckingham said officers from the Ukiah Police Department were already on scene and had used a fire extinguisher on the flames, “but it had little effect” on the blaze that was burning the plastic furniture and other structures.
