Carmen Nava was the first street vendor in Chicago to finally get a license in 2019 to sell tamales after a years-long battle between the city and the Street Vendor Association of Chicago. Today Nava and her husband are two of the owners of a commercial kitchen that a group of vendors had been renting since 2017 with hopes of getting their businesses legalized, as required by the city.
