Egypt will begin local production of China's Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine from mid-June, Health Minister Hala Zayed told MBC Masr TV on Sunday evening. Zayed's remarks came ahead of a delivery of 500,000 doses of the Chinese-produced vaccine to Egypt on Monday, according to airport sources cited by Reuters. Cairo received raw materials to produce up to two million Sinovac doses in May, following an agreement to produce and distribute the vaccine to other African states. Production will begin on 15 June, however a checking period of six weeks will be undertaken before the doses can be distributed, Zayed said.
