I recently received a text from a volunteer for Julie Won’s campaign for City Council in District 26, my district in Long Island City. This district has the most candidates running for Council in the entire city, a total of 16 people. The race consists of a wide range of candidates, everyone from those who proudly identify as Socialist and call people “comrades,” to those who love to cheer “Defund the Police,” and finally two moderate candidates. Aside from the two moderates, the other 14, including Julie Won, have one thing in common: they refuse to take money from those who are in real estate.
