China’s National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said on Tuesday that the profits of industrial firms had risen sharply in March from a year ago, as the demand for raw materials surged along with the nation’s economic recovery. Data showed profits rising to 711.18 billion yuan ($109.6 billion) in March, up 92.3% from a year ago, when the economy was hit hard by the Covid crisis. The pace of growth slowed from the first two months of the year, however. Profits soared 179% in January-February, compared with the same period in 2020.
