The Fixer Upper star joined Kylie Kelce on her “Not Gonna Lie” podcast on Nov. 5 to talk about her new spinoff series, Fixer Upper: Chip Bought a Mansion, which will premiere on Magnolia Network and HGTV on Dec. 27.
After Kelce asked the mom of five about her upcoming show, Gaines revealed that Chip bought the mansion featured in the show as an investment and, notably, without her input.
“Kylie … probably the maddest I’ve been at Chip,” Gaines said, according to People magazine. “I think people really think it’s a schtick. Fixer is like, ‘Chip bought a thing and Jo has to fix it and she cries.’”
The interior designer explained that her husband made the big purchase without involving her at first, for a specific reason.
“He bought this house three-and-a-half years ago because he said he got a good deal. And this is really where we play, ‘Hey, I run what I run.’ He’s the real estate guy,” she said. “He knows if I come into his corner, I will say no to every single thing because I don’t want another project.”
While she first described the property as a house, she admitted that it was, in fact, a 15,000-square-foot mansion and that she was not going to “touch it” after she found out that Chip had bought it.
“I did not touch it for three years,” the Fixer Upper star said. “And [Chip’s] mindset was, ‘I bought it for a great deal. It’s on the lake. It’s the most beautiful view in Waco, Texas. Someone’s going to come along and want this and we’re going to flip it and not have to have done anything. Jo, trust me.’”
After years of sitting on the market, Gaines decided to get involved.
“Three years later, I’m in the business and I’m running the place,” she said.
The mansion, complete with six bedrooms, 11 full bathrooms and a private elevator, is now on the market for $7.39 million, according to People.
