Boston Benchmarks, Roobroeck Honored, Wright-Wood Trade, and Other Blackhawks Bullets

Since Ben Pope suggested the Blackhawks put Anton Frondell on Connor Bedard‘s line as a center, I’ve seen plenty of mock lineups on social media projecting that with him on the wing. I’ve said this from the jump: I have no problem with Frondell being a center in the organization and staying there; his size is an asset down the middle. The Blackhawks just have to find the right wing combination for him — and Bedard.

And I’ve consistently said (since July) that I want to see a line of Frondell between Tyler Bertuzzi and Patrick Kane. That doesn’t “fix” Bedard’s line, but I think it could be lethal. And other lines scaring opposing defenses helps Bedard by taking pressure of him — and Roman Kantserov — to score at least one goal per game.

Frondell’s shot 12 seconds into overtime was clocked at 88.26 mph (per NHL EDGE), his third shot of the season north of 88 mph. On that same play in overtime, Frondell hit a speed burst of 21.38 mph, his third-highest burst of the season to date. Frondell’s power play goal in the first period in Boston was clocked at 83.97 mph, his fourth-hardest shot of the season. Here’s the goal:

    — BHF (@BlackhawksFocus) October 31, 2026 Ryan Greene‘s goal in the third period clocked in at 84.78 mph, his hardest shot of the season. Greene also had a shot late in the second period hit 80.84 mph, giving him two of his three shots this season going over 80 mph in Saturday’s game.

    — BHF (@BlackhawksFocus) October 31, 2026 While we all scour the interwebs for a big forward who likes to shoot the puck who could be available in a trade right now, a reminder that the Blackhawks have a couple guys who fit that description coming in the pipeline. And I’ve written about them a lot over the past couple weeks. On Sunday, Blackhawks prospect Ryan Roobroeck was named the OHL Player of the Month after a stellar October.

The 6-foot-3 left wing produced 22 points over 13 games, sitting tied for fifth in OHL scoring while helping the Storm post a 12-3-0-0 mark in the window. Roobroeck piled up eight multi-point performances, headlined by a hat trick with the overtime winner in a 6-5 victory over the Kitchener Rangers on Oct. 25th and a two-goal, one-assist night in Saturday’s 5-3 win at Saginaw that closed the month. He also scored twice in a 10-5 road win at Owen Sound on Oct. 10th and finished the stretch with three game-winning goals, four power-play goals and two shorthanded markers.

    — Ontario Hockey League (@OHLHockey) November 1, 2026 Note: I am in no way, shape or for advocating for the Blackhawks bringing Roobroeck or Václav Nestrasil or even AJ Spellacy for that matter up to the NHL right now. None of them are NHL ready in the first week of November, and only Spellacy is playing professionally right now. But there is size coming in the pipeline. Here’s a fun update on the player the Blackhawks selected immediately before Roobroeck in the 2026 NHL Draft, Xavier Villeneuve.

    — BU Hockey Stats (@BUHockeyStats) November 1, 2026 An interesting trade on Sunday evening. The Seattle Kraken finally found a new home for young center Shane Wright. He’s headed to Nashville in a straight up, 1-for-1 trade for forward Matthew Wood. Wright, 22, was the fourth overall selection in the 2022 NHL Draft. He has scored 39 goals in 183 career NHL games for the Kraken. Wood, 21, was the 15th overall selection in the 2023 NHL Draft and scored 17 goals for the Predators last year. Take this for what it’s worth: Wood intrigued me as a potential Blackhawks trade target as he seemingly wasn’t fitting into Nashville. He’s big (6-4, 202), is a decent skater and is in the final year of his ELC that has a $950k cap hit. A nice move for both teams to flip young pieces for a fresh start. With that in mind, Ben Pope looked at some potential trade options for the Blackhawks. They’re names we’ve talked about here for a bit now: Washington’s Ivan Miroshnichenko, Columbus’ Dmitri Voronkov, Vancouver’s Jake DeBrusk and Philadelphia’s Owen Tippett. I remain firm that, of those four, I would sign up for Tippett and Tippett only considering the potential cost of acquisition. I first wrote about the Blackhawks inquiring about him three weeks ago now.

The Blackhawks could try to shake up their struggling roster via trade. They're reportedly seeking a big, scoring winger in particular. Here are a few speculative possibilities: t.co/FmidNuMIHp

    — Ben Pope (@BenPopeCST) November 1, 2026 Reminder: the Hometown Remix jerseys will be released officially at 10 AM today. On Sunday, the New Jersey Devils traded goaltender Remi Poirier to the Washington Capitals for a 2027 seventh-round pick. Poirier was acquired off waivers from Dallas on September 27. The New York Islanders announced defenseman Ryan Pulock will be out 2-4 weeks with an upper body injury. One of the players in Rockford whose start had disappointed me was Martin Mišiak, who was identified as a player who took a big step forward last year. Entering Sunday, he had zero points in his first four games this year. That changed 24 seconds into the game when he scored his first of the campaign.

    — Rockford IceHogs (@goicehogs) November 1, 2026 Gavin Hayes stayed hot for Rockford, scoring the Hogs’ second goal of the afternoon and having the primary assist on their third. He has four multi-point games in his last six appearances.

    — Rockford IceHogs (@goicehogs) November 1, 2026 Can I interest you a go-ahead goal from Jiří Felcman for the IceHogs on Sunday? When I updated our prospect rankings at the end of October, I noted that his numbers stand out in the midst of a lot of guys struggling to find their offense in Rockford.

    — Rockford IceHogs (@goicehogs) November 1, 2026 Finally, with assists on Rockford’s first two goals on Sunday, Brett Seney took over the top spot in Rockford’s all-time points list. He added the game-winning goal for good measure. Congrats!
