ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A new piece of public art is taking shape in downtown Rochester.
News10NBC got a sneak peek at a 25-foot tall, 10-foot-wide sculpture called “In Full Bloom” being installed at the center of the Sister Cities Bridge. The floral sculpture honors Rochester’s history as both the Flour City’s water wheel and the Flower City’s five-petaled lilac, and features illuminated flowers that now stand above the Genesee River as a symbol of the city’s legacy.
“Today, we celebrate the installation of an amazing work of art as well as a lasting tribute to the spirit, history, and pride of our city,” said Mayor Malik Evans. “This remarkable sculpture, rising above the Genesee River, stands as a bold and enduring symbol of Rochester’s identity, commemorating the ingenuity that built our city, the horticultural legacy that shaped it, and the talented people who continue to make it thrive. As the final moment of this yearlong celebration, this installation reminds us that great things often begin with one idea and that when a community embraces that idea, it can create something truly worth celebrating.”
The sculpture is still in progress and the base will be installed in the coming weeks. The project marks the final moment of Rochester’s year-long celebration of the 50th anniversary of the city’s iconic mark logo.
