Harvard Senior Alexandra Bastone to Graduate in December, Transfer to Cal in January ...Middle East

Harvard senior Alexandra Bastone has announced that she plans to graduate a semester early and enroll at the University of California, Berkeley, as a graduate transfer in January 2027. She wrote on social media:

“I am incredibly excited to announce that, after graduating early from Harvard, I will be continuing my academic and athletic journey at Cal Berkeley! I will be competing as a Graduate Transfer beginning in January of 2027 and beyond! Thank you to all of my coaches + mentors, past, present and future for your unwavering support”

Bastone was Harvard’s top-performing distance freestyler last season, with times of 4:40.94/ 9:38.94/ 16:17.85. She was also 2nd in the 200 free (1:47.19). Bastone qualified for 2026 NCAAs in the mile and the 500, finishing 27th and 40th, respectively. As a sophomore, she won the 200/500/1650 free (1:46.33/ 4:38.75/ 15:59.70) at Women’s Ivy League Championships and was co-recipient of the high point award. She then swam the 200/500/1650 free at 2025 NCAAs, placing 41st, 18th, and 20th (1:45.99/ 4:38.98/ 16:00.86), respectively.

During her three seasons in Cambridge, Bastone set the Harvard program records in the 500 free (4:38.75), 1000 free (9:30.27), and 1650 free (15:59.70).

Bastone represents Wales internationally, and she competed at this summer’s Commonwealth Games. She came in 13th in the 200 free (2:02.15, a PB), 15th in the 400 free (4:18.10), and 11th in the 800 free (8:54.32).

Bastone is likely to have two seasons with the Golden Bears, given the new 5-for-5 rule. She will join newcomer swimmers Rylee Erisman, Kelsey Zhang, Ava DeAnda, Isabel Wolk, Egle Salu, Halle West, and Kassy Yeung, and divers Madeline Kohel and Malak Tawfik in Berkeley in January.

Bastone will air drop into a stellar training group composed of Ella Cosgrove, Erisman, Camille Henveaux, and Claire Weinstein. Henveaux (4:38.66) and Cosgrove (4:39.07) have already swum sub-4:40s this season, having gone 1-2 in the 500 free at CSL Match #3.
