Mercy Health – St. Joseph Hospital will discontinue its maternity services in early December, the healthcare system said Wednesday afternoon in a news release.
A hospital representative said Mercy Health will be integrating labor and delivery services at Mercy Health – St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital, approximately 30 miles south of the city.
“This enhanced model combines the strengths of the region’s existing maternity programs and centralizes deliveries at a location equipped with advanced clinical resources, including maternal-fetal medicine specialists and a Level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in partnership with Akron Children’s Hospital,” the news release said.
St. Joseph discussed the move in an hourlong meeting with Trumbull County and city officials before making the announcement.
