There are a pair of new names to jot down as potential fits for the Chicago Bears ahead of the 2026 NFL Trade Deadline.
This ESPN piece from NFL insider Jeremy Fowler and analyst Matt Bowen ranks the top 25 players who could be on the move before the Nov. 10 deadline. The story includes team intel, player breakdowns, trade-likelihood projections, and the best fits. As you might expect, the Bears pop up a few times. Also, as expected, the names Khalil Mack and Josh Sweat come up. We’ve spilled plenty of virtual ink on the possibility of Mack’s return and discussed Sweat (who was a free-agent target a few offseasons ago) as a possible trade target.
That said, I don’t want to go too far down that rabbit hole anymore. Instead, I want to focus on two new names that came up in the ESPN story.
New Bears Trade Targets Emerge
Tennessee Titans edge rusher Jermaine Johnson II is one of two new names the Bears could consider a good fit at the trade deadline. I’m intrigued by Bowen’s analysis of the player:
What Bowen sees on tape: I don’t see elite traits with Johnson, but he has the play strength and length to dent the pocket, and he will pick up second-reaction hits on the quarterback due to his effort level. Plus, Johnson will hammer the ball back inside when setting edges as a run defender. Johnson has 16 career sacks over five pro seasons.
That isn’t the type of ringing endorsement I’d want to see of a player the Bears are connected to on the trade market. However, I like the idea of adding useful defensive line depth. And Johnson’s success (7.5 sacks, 11 tackles-for-loss, 16 quarterback hits in a Pro Bowl 2023 season) makes me wonder whether a change of scenery could spark something in him. It wouldn’t be a sexy addition, but it could be helpful.
Fowler gives a Johnson trade a 30 percent chance of happening. The Titans are 1-6 and are well down the road on a trip to yet another top-10 pick. So at this point, they should be looking to trade anyone (or anything) not bolted down at the team facility. That should include Johnson, but because Titans Head Coach Robert Saleh is clearly a fan of Johnson’s game (the two were together with the New York Jets), it might be a little harder to pry him away than you might expect.
The Bears had joint practices with the Titans during the summer, which could help inform Chicago’s decision to pursue Johnson as a trade target. All in all, this is a name to monitor.

Taylor is a player we’ve discussed as a Bears target in free agency this past offseason and as a possible trade fit at this time last year. If you recall, the Bears tried to swing a trade for Taylor last fall. It didn’t happen, as it fell apart at the last minute. But it was still noteworthy.
Here’s what we had to say about it last November:
The Bears’ reasoning for wanting Alontae Taylor is simple enough: Chicago needs help in the secondary in the worst way.
Alontae Taylor is a 26-year-old cornerback who is in his fourth season with the Saints. A second-round pick (49th overall) in the 2022 NFL Draft, Taylor has appeared in 56 games (45 starts) during his time with New Orleans. He has two interceptions (but none since 2023), 45 passes defended, 3 forced fumbles, 6 sacks, 18 tackles-for-loss, and 8 quarterback hits to his name in his career. Taylor’s 58.6 overall grade from Pro Football Focus puts him at 61st among the 106 cornerbacks who have played enough snaps to qualify for the leaderboard.
Now, let’s fast forward to what ESPN’s Matt Bowen has to say about Taylor:
What Bowen sees on tape: Taylor has gotten off to a slow start with the Titans after signing in free agency. However, he plays a premium position, and he has the speed to cover receivers on the perimeter or play a disruptive role in the slot. In his four seasons with the Saints before joining Tennessee, Taylor had four interceptions, 40 pass breakups and seven sacks.
Unlike last year, when Taylor was a good trade fit because he was on an expiring deal, the challenge in trading for the cornerback in 2026 is that he is in the first year of a multi-year deal that includes $20.5 million in guarantees. And because he isn’t playing all that well right now, it might muddy the waters when it comes to trade talks. Perhaps the Bears can leverage the contract situation to land on the receiving end of a pick swap as part of taking that salary off the Titans’ books.
For what it’s worth, Fowler gives a trade a 10 percent chance of happening. It is a long shot, but one to keep an eye on between now and the Nov. 10 NFL Trade Deadline.
