Even before another game is played, the Rays kinda pulled off something remarkable simply by winning Game Four last night after going down 3-0 in the World Series against the Brewers. Historically, once you’re down 3-0 in a postseason series, you get swept something like 80% of the time. It was all the more remarkable that the Rays didn’t fold once Cooper Pratt hit the game-leading homer in the 12th inning, and that the Brewers made a mistake in the bottom of the 12th to open the door. Everybody thought they’d just watched the World Series winner:

    — Jomboy Media (@JomboyMedia) October 28, 2026 The Rays get another chance tonight to continue the comeback, but of the very small handful of teams that forced a Game 5 after going down 3-0 in the World Series, not a single one has ever forced a Game 6. If the Rays want to be the first, they’ll have to win a game started by Jacob Misiorowski, so that won’t be easy. (Anyone know if a team has ever come back from a 3-1 World Series deficit?) Also, the Rays were just the fourth team ever to stave of elimination in the World Series with an extra-innings comeback win, and if they DON’T go on to win the Series now, they’d be the first to fail to do so:

    — OptaSTATS (@OptaSTATS) October 28, 2026 In any case, the 2026 MLB season lives on for at least one more day, and we all get to punt our fears about the 2026 MLB offseason for another 24 hours. I think I’ve kinda been in denial – not as a writer whose job it is to cover this stuff, but as a fan who doesn’t want to confront the fact that I might not have a Cubs game to watch until … May? June? July? Yeah, still don’t want to confront it. Understandably generous framing here if you look a little closer:

No Time Like October: FOX Sports opens #WorldSeries with strong start highlighted by 12,259,000 viewers for Game 1 and 10,854,000 for Game 2. ⚾️?

    — FOX Sports PR (@FOXSportsPR) October 27, 2026 No one expected this series to be a ratings monster, so it’s fine. But hey, if the Rays did come back to force a Game 7, that’s when you’d see a huge spike, I’m guessing. So, you know, MLB, get that fix in. Baseball isn’t necessarily a huge outlier here, but this is nevertheless absolutely a long-term problem:
