ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A Fairport brother and sister are being honored for helping their father during several seizures that he had over the past year.
Victoria Frink, a ninth grader at Fairport High School, and William Frink, a second grader at Brooks Hill Elementary School, are among the latest recipients of the Do the Right Thing awards. Their mother nominated them for remaining calm and quickly getting help during their father’s seizures. They even helped to administer rescue medication while waiting for first responders.
“I usually try to remember the steps my mom told me,” Victoria said. “If I actively see him seizing, I try to count the seconds. And if I missed it and only see the after, I tell him to sit down and I try to give him his medicine and I make sure he’s cool and not too hot or too uncomfortable. But I’m proud of myself and my brother here, so I think we deserve this.”
Any student in grades K-12 in a Monroe County school is eligible for a nomination. The good deed must have occurred within one year of the nomination. Anyone over 18 years of age can submit a nomination form, including family, friends, school staff, and coaches.
The Rochester Police Department has held the Do the Right Thing awards since 1995. You can learn more about nominating a student here. See past winners here.
