The Buri region of Bahrain is witnessing steady progress on its new agricultural project, with nearly 87% of the infrastructure works already completed, as reported by BNA. The project aims to establish a desalination plant in the area to fulfill its water requirements, according to the report.
After inspecting the project site, Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, announced that the project is set for completion by the year-end, given that the irrigation networks, water wells, and two main substations are already ready.
He was accompanied by Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, Secretary-General of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD), and Asim Abdullatif Abdulla, Undersecretary for Agriculture and Animal Affairs.
The BNA report revealed that the land was exclusively allocated to Bahraini farmers through a public tender, with contracts lasting for 10 years, including a one-year grace period.
The minister mentioned that 12 Bahraini farmers had already received their allocated plots and commenced constructing agricultural facilities and greenhouses. He further stated that the construction progress has reached 75%.
Shaikha Maram highlighted the co-operation between NIAD and the ministry in supporting Bahraini farmers, increasing local agricultural production, and strengthening food security.
The project spans 82,000sqm and consists of 12 plots, each ranging from 6,000 to 8,000sqm.
