News broke earlier this week that the famed Indian River State College Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving teams may be getting cut by the school after this year.
According to the agenda for the college’s Board of Trustees Governance & Legislative Affairs Committee meeting scheduled for Oct. 27, the committee will consider a request to approve recommendations from President Timothy Moore and his cabinet that would eliminate both the men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs.
SwimSwam spoke with current IRSC Swim team athlete Kalaa Hall about what this news meant to the team and how they’re dealing with it. An alum of the team has started a Change.org petition that has garnered over 10,000 signatures as of publication of this article. There will also be a big group of supporters, including current athletes, coaches, alumni, and parents, at the Board of Directors’ meeting who plan to make their voices heard during the 30-minute allotted time for the public to speak.
The Indian River State College Men’s Swim team is coming off their 52nd consecutive NJCAA team title, while the women’s team just won their 48th in a row.
