MELBOURNE, Australia — Live Nation’s Australian portfolio of live music venues continues to grow with the addition of a new 5,000-capacity space in North Melbourne.
The concerts giant will deliver and operate the purpose-built venue at Arden Central, a major multi-billion-dollar, government-backed urban renewal and innovation precinct, about one mile from the city’s CBD.
Once completed, the site is expected to host more than 100 events each year, creating “new performance opportunities for Australian artists and local talent, attract international touring acts and give fans another place to experience live music,” reads a statement from LN.
Announced Thursday, Oct. 22, the venue is part of the first stage of Arden Central, a cultural and parkland neighborhood being developed by Hamton and Hostplus and serviced by train.
“Melbourne is one of the world’s great live music cities, and continued investment in venues is essential to attracting international artists and keeping Melbourne relevant in an increasingly competitive global environment,” comments Alex Klos, president, Australia & New Zealand at Live Nation. “This purpose-built venue will add a significant new stage to Melbourne’s live music ecosystem, while helping establish Arden Central as a vibrant new destination for live entertainment.”
The wider precinct, budgeted at A$7 billion, should provide more than 5,400 homes for over 10,000 people, alongside retail, hospitality, community facilities and 5.5 hectares of open space.
There, LN joins new precinct partners Melbourne Victory Football Club and the University of Melbourne, plus the North Melbourne Football Club, the four-time VFL/AFL premiers which has called Arden Street home for more than 125 years.
With a 5,000-capacity, LN’s newest venue is one of its biggest in these parts. Currently, the live entertainment juggernaut operates The Palais Theatre (2,900 capacity) and Festival Hall in Melbourne, Fortitude Music Hall (3,000) and The Triffid (800) in Brisbane, Hindley Street Music Hall in Adelaide (1,800), Anita’s Theatre in Wollongong (1,200), and the Northbridge Music Hall in Perth, which is expected to open to the public in the summer of 2026-27. LN also operates the 13,000-capacity Spark Arena in Auckland, New Zealand.
“This venue is being designed around the live experience, creating an intimate connection between artists and fans while delivering everything expected of a best-in-class touring venue,” comments Guy Ngata, senior VP, venue development at Live Nation, on the announcement of the North Melbourne project.
A range of premium experiences, artist amenities and efficient production access “have been embedded into the venue’s design,” he continues.
An opening date has yet to be floated for the new venue, which is designed by Blueprint Studio, LN’s in-house design and development group, in collaboration with Populous.
