It’s only been a short time since Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) was named the new director of NCIS. But in that time, Special Agent Nick Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) has been pushing to do more tactical work than just investigating and solving crimes, like in his earlier years with the agency.
As he explains in the NCIS episode, he has skills, like the ability to hold his breath for four minutes.

So, this week, he’s given the opportunity to revisit the days when he worked undercover when one of his retired UC identities – Dante Navarro — is reactivated by someone who uses it to commit a string of murders – and it’s a matter of be careful what you wish for because that earlier version of him isn’t who he wants to be.
“I did some horrible things in my past,” Torres says to Alden Parker (Gary Cole) in this early release look at the episode. “Which I justified by saying it was in the line of duty but there was always something that bothered me afterwards. How much I enjoyed it.”

The story reunites Torres with his grizzled old-school former handler – now retired, Walt Keller (Mike O’Malley), who tries to convince Nick that the darker version of him that he thought he’d left behind, is who he really is in the “Sleeping Dogs” episode.
“You still don’t get it, do you?” Keller says. “Nick Torres is the cover. Dante’s who you really are.”
And that gets a strong reaction from Nick.
NCIS airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS. Streams next day on Paramount+.
