Steady progress is being made on the Muharraq Development Project, Bahrain, with Phase I work now being fast tracked. This phase involves the construction and restoration of 300 housing units across 6 neighborhoods, as well as infrastructure development works.
The progress was reported by BNA, citing officials at the 318th meeting of the Ministerial Committee for Development Projects and Infrastructure, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa.
Work is also ongoing to develop main roads and internal pathways, as well as improve building facades, car parks, open spaces, and green areas, they stated.
The Phase I of the Muharraq Development Project, which involves restoring 16 heritage buildings along the Pearling Path and adapting them for tourism and cultural activities, as well as constructing 300 housing units, is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
Around 92% of new model housing units have been completed, restoration works have surpassed 60pc and the Muharraq Visitors’ Centre has reached 82% completion,” stated the GDN report, citing the Housing and Urban Planning Minister Amna Al Romaihi. “The Phase II will see the development of nearly 2,000 residential units through private-sector partnerships,” she added.
The Ministerial Committee acknowledged the Ministry of Works’ ongoing efforts to enhance the road network. They expressed satisfaction with the progress made on the project to upgrade roads leading to Bahrain International Airport, particularly after the announcement of the commencement of Phase 3B works.
In a related development, the committee received a briefing on the awarding of the tender for Package 4 of the Busaiteen Link project, as reported by BNA.
The committee also welcomed the opening of Al Casino Park in Muharraq by the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture. This was a result of the successful completion of its renovation and facility upgrades.
The committee emphasised that these developments are part of the broader efforts to develop Muharraq and improve its urban environment. They aim to preserve the city’s historical and cultural identity while enhancing public facilities and recreational spaces.
