WARREN — St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish hosted a recent fundraiser to benefit St. Vincent de Paul, which plans to locate its offices to the former St. James Parish rectory.
Vicki Cicero, chairwoman of the event, said the fourth annual Rock and Rally fundraiser was a benefit for the St. Vincent de Paul dining hall on Niles Road. She said the popularity of the many food trucks and a live band is the reason the event has been taking place for four years.
“People have told me they like the event. They like the food and the music and the camaraderie while having a fun night out,” Cicero said.
She said the event this year had more than 500 attendees, and events have raised $19,000 for St. Vincent de Paul.
Darlene Jones, CEO of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Northeast Ohio District Council, said the funds help with food and other items for the dining hall since there has been an increase in people needing food.
“We are feeding more people than ever. We have days where we are feeding 535 people for lunch. Our programs and services are more in demand than they have ever been. The funds raised have been a tremendous blessing for St. Vincent de Paul,” Jones said.
She said that with gas prices and rent for people increasing, they can’t always afford food.
“We have seen more and more working families. There have been many homeless families with children needing help as well,” Jones said.
She said the St. James rectory near the White Hall off Burton Street was purchased by St. Vincent de Paul and will be where the administrative offices are moved in the future from the current location off Niles Road.
Jones said all the paperwork, such as voucher screenings, will be done at the new location.
The Rev. Christopher Cicero said the event is enjoyed by many people and is for a good cause.
“It is a response from the parish to help care for people in need and for the community to come together and enjoy each other’s company in the context of a church,” Cicero said.
He said the rectory has been vacated.
“That will be a great use for that facility to provide Christian outreach to those in need. We feel that will be the best use for that building,” Cicero said.
Jones said some renovations are being done at the building with plans to move in by late 2026.
